Introduction to Post Processing with Lightroom™ for the Underwater Photographer

by Chris Parsons

Some people might long for the days of sending rolls of film off to a lab to be developed, but for the rest of us, the good news is that we now have the control of how our photographs look. Post processing is simply getting your photos from A to B... from camera to a finished product, whether that is a huge metallic print or a post on Facebook. Not too long ago, it was difficult to take advantage of the power of shooting in RAW mode, keeping track of file versions, finding images, and sharing images, but now programs like Lightroom™ (and Aperture™ and Capture One™ ) make this easier than ever.

This is a two evening workshop exploring post processing with Lightroom.  Class starts at 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm in Fort Lauderdale classroom at the Reef Photo & Video Retail Store. This will be a 'workshop' class.  Bring your laptop so you can follow along as Chris shows you the fastest and easiest ways to edit and catalog your images.

We'll talk about:

  • Importing images - getting images from camera to computer
  • Editing/culling - quickly separating good and bad images, and getting rid of the bad ones
  • Cataloging - organizing and tagging your images so that you can easily find them later
  • Developing images - making your images look as good as possible, without looking "photoshopped"
  • Underwater specific edits - underwater shots need special care, and we'll show you how to do that
  • Exporting images - getting images out of Lightroom for use elsewhere
  • Publish Services - a super easy way to share photos on Flickr, Facebook, SmugMug, your iPad, and many more
  • Print, Slideshow, Book, Map, Web - more ways to share
  • Storage and backup strategies - how to store and keep your images safe
  • Non destructive editing - the basis of Lightroom, allowing you to confidently make adjustments without fear of losing data
  • Photoshop integration, plugins, more - want to go beyond what Lightroom can do?
